2025.10.22On Monday, October 20th, the "Regenerative Medicine x Manufacturing Technology Collaboration Forum - Learning from Case Studies of Manufacturing Companies to Solve Issues in the Regenerative Medicine Industry" was held at the Qrossover Lounge Yume on the second floor of Nakanoshima Qross.
This event was organized by the Kansai Bureau of Economy, Trade and Industry's Kansai Regenerative Medicine Industry Consortium (KRIC), Nakanoshima Qross, and Higashiosaka City, with the aim of connecting the technologies of manufacturing companies to resolve technical challenges in the regenerative medicine industry. Approximately 60 people participated on the day.
In his opening remarks, Kazushige Shinya (Director-General of the Kinki Bureau of Economy, Trade and Industry) spoke of the high level of science concentrated in the Kansai region, including Osaka University Professor Shimon Sakaguchi, who was recently awarded the Nobel Prize in Physiology or Medicine, and expressed his expectations for the manufacturing companies that are at the forefront of this field.

Next, Chairman Yoshiki Sawa outlined the vision and strategy for the Nakanoshima Cross Drug Discovery Cluster Campus Project, a new initiative aimed at bridging Japan's science and technology gaps and societal implementation. Going forward, the project will promote global-level incubation and strengthen the development of entrepreneurial talent through collaboration with incubators and accelerators such as CIC, Plug and Play, and LINK-J. This initiative is not limited to startups; it also applies to mid-sized and small manufacturing companies, who are expected to become immediately adaptable players. Furthermore, by promoting CDMO business and expanding international collaboration, the project will promote collaboration with over 50 countries around the world. Using the metaphor of a "science casino" as a place to invest in the value of science, Sawa expressed his determination to expand from Nakanoshima to the world.

Next, we will introduce a case study of a manufacturing company working on regenerative medicine.
Takeshi Doi, General Manager of Product Development Department, Planning and Development Division, Sanplatec Co., Ltd.
Mr. Yoshiya Kakizaki, Director, Osaka Sanitary Co., Ltd.
Mr. Muneki Tatsumi, Section Manager, Regenerative Engineering Research Center, Saraya General Research Institute, Saraya Co., Ltd.
Each of them took the stage.
He shared very real stories about his experiences in entering the regenerative medicine field, including the challenges he faced and what motivated him to enter the field.

At the networking session (business card exchange) at the end of the event, there was lively interaction between speakers and participants, creating a time for diverse connections to be made around the common themes of regenerative medicine and manufacturing.
With this event as the kickoff, we are currently planning two more events in the series this year. We will continue to promote new business exchanges and deepen the content of our plans, aiming to actually connect businesses and increase synergy between research institutions, small and medium-sized enterprises, and startups. The next event will be held on November 27th, and will include a needs introduction session and a tour of the Kyoto University iPS Cell Research Foundation, so please come along.
